critique of unemployment rates

I would have to say that matt’s take on the current unemployment situation in the United States is very well detailed and quite in depth. I found it very interesting how it was the mid-west and the southern states that posted the lowest unemployment rate in the entire country mostly because I would have figured that it would have been somewhere like the northeast that would have the lowest due to the level of wealth located there.  It was also interesting to see that the unemployment was considered mostly frictional and even structional. It is very interesting that the need for skilled labor would have increased since for the most part skilled labor is not in as high a demand anymore due to the invention of the conveyor belt. However it is apparent that skilled workers are still needed regardless of the profession due to the fact that people will always need to have someone with the knowledge of how something works.

Even though the blog says that it was Nebraska and the Dakotas that had the lowest level of unemployment it should also be noted that these are states with a population a lot lower than many of the other states there for the reason the percent of people would be lower because they wouldn’t have to employ nearly as many people as say an area like new York city. Granted it is a very good thing that the states have begun to post lower unemployment rates. I especially enjoyed how matt went into several reasons for a growing unemployment rate.  Like how if the company has more money than they would be able to have more hours available granted this is just simply logic but it is still informative.  It was interesting to find out that the payroll of several companies are made public enough for such organizations to make articles that talk about the drop in available hours. I was very surprised to see that it was Pennsylvania that took the largest decline in work hours and actually had their unemployment rise up even if it was by only .1 %.  Though the unemployment did increases as long as it stays steady there shouldn’t be any real issue with it since it will remain somewhat constant and will actually help the economy because people will be able to find some source of stability. It is when there is instability that people panic and more issue arise within a country like riots.
